Project overview

Passive fire protection works were delivered as part of the refurbishment of an existing building to create new student accommodation. Structural Fireproofing Systems Ltd (SFS) was responsible for the fire protection elements, delivering a coordinated package across multiple systems.

  • Cementitious spray was applied to existing concrete elements to upgrade fire resistance.
  • Soffit board systems were installed within basement areas to provide fire protection and thermal upgrading.
  • New structural steel beams were protected using a combination of boarding systems and intumescent paint, selected to suit location and performance requirements.
  • Firestopping was installed to all new compartment walls using tested, manufacturer-approved systems.
  • Small cavity barriers were installed within designated voids to maintain compartmentation integrity.
  • All installations were completed by FIRAS-accredited operatives and recorded with photographic QA evidence.
