Structural Fireproofing Systems Ltd was built on strong foundations of experience, integrity, and knowledge.
The company was founded by Jim O’Hagan, a respected figure within the fire protection industry whose commitment to raising professional standards left a lasting legacy. Jim’s influence continues to shape SFS to this day — his dedication to training, compliance, and accountability became the cornerstones of our business.
Under the leadership of his son, Jamie O’Hagan (Managing Director), and Danny Wilson (Financial Director), SFS has continued to expand while maintaining the personal integrity and professionalism that have defined the company for over three decades.
Jim O’Hagan’s long-standing membership on the ASFP Council and his recognition as the winner of the inaugural ASFP Lifetime Achievement Award reflect the deep roots SFS holds within the passive fire protection community. That legacy is now carried forward by Jamie, who serves as Vice Chairman of the ASFP Council, and Danny, who is Vice Chairman of the ASFP Young Leaders Group — demonstrating SFS’s ongoing influence at both leadership and next-generation levels.

Throughout the 1970s to early 1990s Jim O’Hagan developed extensive hands-on experience within the Passive fire protection industry whilst working as a contracts manager for Morcaeu the UK’s first on shore PFP company.
This period established the technical depth, workmanship standards and industry relationships that would later define SFS.
This marked the beginning of SFS as a recognised UK specialist contractor within the Passive Fire Protection sector.
At this early stage, Jamie O’Hagan, now Managing Director, joined the business following a successful period of work experience. After initially spending one week gaining experience in plumbing with Royce Irving and a second week within passive fire protection, Jamie chose to pursue a career within the fire protection industry.
Recognising his potential, Ray Huddart offered Jamie a permanent position as a Contracts Administrator. The first step in what would become a long-standing leadership journey within SFS.
SFS strengthened its industry presence through membership and active engagement with the Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP).
Structural Fireproofing Systems Ltd – Membership since 2005.
In 2006, Structural Fireproofing Systems Ltd achieved third-party accreditation under the FIRAS certification scheme.
FIRAS accreditation represented a significant milestone in the company’s commitment to independently verified competence and compliance within passive fire protection.
By securing third-party accreditation early, SFS reinforced its position as a quality-driven specialist contractor committed to accountability and regulatory compliance long before enhanced Building Safety reform.
In 2008, Jamie O’Hagan was appointed Director of Structural Fireproofing Systems Ltd marking a significant milestone in the company’s leadership evolution.
Having joined the business at an early stage of its development, Jamie progressed through operational and commercial roles, developing a comprehensive understanding of passive fire protection delivery, project management and client engagement.
Jamie’s leadership laid the foundations for the company’s modern development.
From its origins as a family-run business to its position today as an industry leader, SFS has remained committed to one core objective, protecting people and property through excellence in fire protection.
We are proud of our heritage, our people, and our role in shaping the future of passive fire safety through ongoing collaboration with the Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) and the wider construction community.
Our legacy is one of leadership, quality, and responsibility. Values that continue to define us today.
Jim was a long-standing ASFP Council member and the recipient of the inaugural ASFP Lifetime Achievement Award — a recognition of his remarkable contribution to the fire protection industry over many decades.
